Vietnam’s efforts in building sustainable economic development in the post-pandemic period

By Dr Chu Minh Thao

While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused global economic impacts, Vietnam’s impressive effort to contain the domestic spread of COVID-19 has largely protected the country from the economic devastation seen in other countries. Although not cushioned completely from the blows of the pandemic, Vietnam is advantageously positioned as it looks towards economic recovery in the post-pandemic period.

In this analysis brief, Dr Chu Minh Thao examines how Vietnam’s effective response to the pandemic, coupled with its economic policies of self-reliance, has saved its economic livelihood. Vietnam has become an attractive option as countries look to shift supply chains and foreign direct investment, and its support for trade liberalisation positions it well to speed up its economic recovery.
