Japan: India’s economic bridge to the Indo-Pacific

India’s absence from the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership raises concerns over its economic participation and regional leadership in the Indo-Pacific.

The changing nature of economic growth, as well as power competition, mean that mechanisms beyond traditional trade policy will govern the Indo-Pacific.

India can leverage its strong relationship with Japan to help shape an open, transparent and diversified Indo-Pacific economy.
