Professor Gordon Flake recently interviewed Alexander Downer, the Executive Chair of the International School for Government at King’s College in London, UK.
Alexander Downer is the former Australian High Commissioner to London and served as the Australian Foreign Minister from 1996 to 2007.
Their conversation focused on Mr Downer’s observations about Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s recent foreign policy speech delivered ahead of the 2021 G7 summit; the election of President Biden and its impact on American soft power in the UK, Australia, and around the world; as well as the regional and international implications of the UK’s bid to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The significance of the international rules-based economic order to American and Australian national interests was also discussed.
