Roundtable with the Hon Madeleine King
On 6 April, the Perth USAsia Centre was honoured to host the Hon. Madeleine King, Minister for Resources and Minister for Northern Australia, for a private roundtable discussion. The Minister was joined by senior leaders from the resources and technology sectors, government, and the broader community.
The importance of critical minerals to the Australian economy was the focus of the discussion.
Australia had found itself at the heart of the global discussion on energy transition and international security, with critical minerals an essential component of both renewable energy and defence technologies. As a result, a growing number of countries either had, or wanted, critical minerals partnerships with Australia, including Japan, the Republic of Korea, the US, UK, Europe, India and Indonesia.
And with Western Australia hosting half the world’s lithium and a growing industrial processing capability, building energy and security partnerships in the Indo-Pacific relied on partnerships with the state.
