Roundtable with Lieutenant General Wallace Gregson and the Hon Randall Schriver
The Perth USAsia Centre hosted Project 2049 Institute Chairman and Co-founder the Honourable Randall “Randy” Schriver and Avascent International Senior Advisor Lieutenant General Wallace “Chip” Gregson for a roundtable discussion on Thursday 15 December 2022.
Mr Schriver and Lieutenant General Gregson are both former United States assistant secretaries of defense whose responsibilities encompassed the Indo-Pacific region. They are leading a bi-partisan panel to develop a joint US-Australia strategy for the Indo-Pacific, under the auspices of Washington, DC-based foreign policy think tank, Project 2049 Institute. The Institute seeks to guide global decision makers towards a more secure Asia by 2049.
The roundtable brought together senior members of the defence and defence industry communities, as well state and federal government and the private sector. The wide-ranging discussion touched on the growing instability of the Indo-Pacific region, especially in the Taiwan Strait, opportunities for the US and Australia to collaborate in defence industry and research, and the increasing importance of collaboration to counter misinformation and disinformation.
Mr Schriver and Lt General Gregson’s visit to Western Australia was part of a national program that also included visits to Canberra and Sydney.
