Roundtable with His Excellency Ufuk Gezer

On 18 April 2024, the Perth USAsia Centre was pleased to host a roundtable discussion with His Excellency Ufuk Gezer, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Australia.
Türkiye is an important geopolitical actor strategically positioned at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa. The country plays a key role in China’s Belt and Road Initiative and, since the launch of its “Asia Anew” Initiative in late 2019, is also increasing its presence and involvement in the Indo-Pacific.
Ambassador Gezer joined us for an illuminating discussion about Türkiye’s history, its economic and strategic priorities, and the regional challenges it faces.

Biography
Ambasador Ufuk Gezer is Türkiye’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to Australia since January 2023. Previously, he has worked as a special advisor to the Deputy Minister and held leading functions in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including as Deputy Director General in the Ministry’s directorate for Southeast Asia as well as Head of Section for Policy Planning.
Ambassador Gezer has also served as Consul General in Germany after working as a diplomat in Kenya, Austria and Germany. From 2006-2007, he was the political adviser to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO’s) senior civilian representative in Afghanistan.
He holds an undergraduate degree from Bogazici University and a graduate degree from Vienna University and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.
