Roundtable with Dr Charles Edel

On Monday 4 December 2023 the Perth USAsia Centre hosted Dr Charles Edel, Senior Adviser and Australia Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Cooperation was top of mind for both countries during the Prime Minister Albanese’s recent visit to Washington DC.  The US-Australia Alliance is now more comprehensive than ever, spanning multiple security, economic and climate initiatives.  And with work already underway to make AUKUS a success in the Indo-Pacific, the bilateral relationship itself has never been more critical.
Dr Edel provided the audience with a view direct from Washington on the Alliance, and the way forward for our two countries are regional dynamics become increasingly challenging.

Dr Charles Edel is a senior adviser and the inaugural Australia Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

He previously taught at the University of Sydney, where he was also a senior fellow at the United States Studies Centre. Prior to that, Dr Edel was a professor of strategy and policy at the US Naval War College and served on the US Secretary of State’s Policy Planning Staff from 2015 to 2017.
