Roundtable with Chair Na Kyung-Won

On Tuesday 27 June 2023, the Perth USAsia Centre hosted South Korean official Chair Na Kyung-won for a roundtable discussion.

South Korea is one of Australia’s most valued partnerships. It is our fourth-largest trading partner and has a long history of working with Australia in multilateral fora. In 2021, the relationship was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Following the release of South Korea’s much-anticipated Indo-Pacific Strategy in 2022, Australia and Korea’s shared interests continue to grow.

As a former four-term National Assembly member and the first female floor leader with the ROK’s governing People Power Party (PPP), Chair Na brought valuable insight into South Korea’s perspectives on regional affairs. She emphasised the strong cooperation between South Korea and Australia on renewable energy and economic security, and the opportunities for these ties to grow.

The varied discussion covered topics including defence cooperation, resource diplomacy, and people-to-people links.
