What is being done to encourage women’s participation in Indonesia’s parliament?

Dr Ella Prihatini is an expert in gender and electoral politics in Indonesia. She is a visiting researcher at Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency and an honorary research fellow at the University of Western Australia (UWA), where she previously taught. She has also lectured at BINUS and President Universities.
A former journalist with over a decade of experience across Japan, Australia, Qatar, and the UK, Ella is known for her 2005 interview with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Her research focuses on women’s political representation, young voters, digital diplomacy, and electoral politics, including the creation of the Indonesian Ambassadors Dataset.
Ella’s work has been published in leading academic journals and media outlets, and she was named one of Australia’s Top 40 Researchers in 2019. She holds a PhD in political science and international relations from UWA.
