WA Indo-Pacific Defence & Defence Industry Strategy Series

The WA Indo-Pacific Defence & Defence Industry Strategy Series, convened by the Perth USAsia Centre and Defence West for the WA Minister for Defence Issues and the Government of Western Australia, enabled WA’s Defence strategic scholars, Defence Industry leaders and the WA Government to thoroughly examine the rapid changes in Australia and WA’s Defence strategic environment. Furthermore, the WA Defence Strategy Series examined how WA’s Defence Industry could further leverage the State’s capabilities to capture Defence Industry growth opportunities and support national Defence.

Five private workshops were held in-person and online on 19 August 2020, 16 September 2020, 15 October 2020, 12 November 2020 and 24 February 2021. The workshops covered the following topics: 
  • Sea Power Alliances in the Indo-Pacific and the opportunities for Western Australia
  • Understanding security implications of the emerging cyber environment
  • Implications of autonomous, unmanned and undersea capabilities for WA
  • Defining 'success' for the WA Defence and Defence Industry Strategic Plan
 The WA Defence Strategy Series, contributed to a final policy report: WA’s Defence Sector: Opportunities, Capabilities and Policy Options in a new Indo-Pacific Environment.
