On 8 October 2018, the Perth USAsia Centre and The University of Western Australia hosted "The Zone Above: The Indo-Pacific Era in Space" conference at Optus Stadium which explored the shared opportunities and challenges for Australia's role in the Indo-Pacific era in space. The conference was joined by a diverse array of over 35 high-calibre speakers specialising in space policy, foreign policy, defence, energy and resources and policymaking. The conference welcomed over 400 delegates from the public, private, diplomatic and academic sectors, as well as future leaders in STEM from high schools and universities in Western Australia.
