Indian Ocean
As a think tank based along the expansive Indian Ocean coastline, we aim to deepen understanding of the region’s strategic significance. Home to a third of the world’s population and serving as a key hub for global shipping routes, the Indian Ocean is becoming increasingly important to global affairs. Growing strategic competition and maritime security threats such as piracy have direct implications for Australia’s economic interests and national security. Our research and programs track these developments and highlight the pivotal role of small island states in shaping the region’s future.
