Under Indonesia’s new President, Prabowo Subianto, a nonaligned stance and emphasis on economic development remain central pillars of Indonesian foreign policy. However, Prabowo’s ambition to elevate Indonesia’s international profile signals a notable shift in the style and direction of Indonesia’s external engagement. While Australia’s relationship with Indonesia will remain cooperative, Canberra must navigate differing strategic outlooks and changes to Jakarta’s policy process.
