Roundtable Discussion
Australia and India:
Partners in the Indo-Pacific
August 2025
On 29 August 2025, the Centre was pleased to host H.E. Philip Green OAM, Australian High Commissioner to India.
India and Australia are Indian Ocean neighbours and close economic and strategic partners. India is Australia’s fourth-largest export market, a share that is set to grow, with India projected to be the world’s third-largest economy by the end of this decade. Strategically, the relationship has never been more important, with the two countries working together in the Quad and across a growing range of bilateral domains, including defence cooperation, research and innovation, critical minerals, and more. Still, as both countries seek to deepen their partnership, they face a complex set of security and economic challenges, from Trump’s trade war to the growing instability in the Indo-Pacific.
Participants in this roundtable discussion heard from High Commissioner Green on the future of the Australia-India relationship and how the two countries are navigating these complex times.
