The Western Australian Indo-Pacific Defence Conference explores the major implications for national defence and regional security in light of changing geo-economics, trade and energy flows. This conference convenes strategic thinkers from the military, industry, academic and government in Perth, WA, home to Australia’s largest naval base, a growing defence industry, and a vibrant civic and academic community.

The event also presents as an opportunity to examine the broader geo-strategic environment of the Indo-Pacific and the important role Australia will continue to play in the region via its expertise in defence capability and resources, as well as promote the State’s defence capability to national and international defence stakeholders.

A futher aim of this conference is to showcase regional opportunities to WA-based industries, as well as national and international stakeholders, as well as provide new and relevant information from high-level speakers to educate and inspire our local industry, and to assist them in becoming world class and globally competitive (export ready).

2022 Indian Ocean Defence and Security Conference

The 2022 Indian Ocean Defence and Security Conference Beyond Transits: The emerging security relevance of the Indian Ocean was hosted at Optus Stadium on 25 and 26 August 2022, and attended by over 500 attendees across government, academia, and the defence industry.

2021 Defence Strategic Policy Program Grant

Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) and the Perth USAsia Centre (PUSAC) have been jointly awarded a 2021 Defence Strategic Policy Program Grant to evaluate strategic supply chain risks facing Australia’s defence and critical goods industries.

WA Indo-Pacific Defence & Defence Industry Strategy Series

The WA Indo-Pacific Defence & Defence Industry Strategy Series, convened by the Perth USAsia Centre and Defence West for the WA Minister for Defence Issues and the Government of Western Australia, enabled WA’s Defence strategic scholars, Defence Industry leaders and the WA Government to thoroughly examine the rapid changes in Australia and WA’s Defence strategic environment.

2019 WA Indo-Pacific Defence Conference

The 2019 WA Indo-Pacific Defence Conference focussed on the capacity of SMEs across the State to serve as defence suppliers to global primes.

2018 WA Indo-Pacific Defence Conference

In 2018, this inaugural conference established a showcase of WA's defence industry and explored the State's role in the future of the Indo-Pacific.
