To build momentum for the In The Zone: The Blue Zone 2017 conference, the Perth USAsia Centre and The University of Western Australia hosted several events in Australia and Indonesia to promote the importance of exploring the future of the Indo-Pacific maritime realm.

The blue zone - surabaya: 22 May 2017

The Perth USAsia Centre and the Universitas Airlangga hosted a public panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing Indonesia and Australia in the Indo-Pacific maritime realm in Surabaya, Indonesia. The panel discussion focused on the environmental, resource and security issues facing the Indo-Pacific.

Australia's Ambassador for the Environment, His Excellency Mr Patrick Suckling, visited the UWA Oceans Institute to deliver a public lecture on Australia's efforts in the fight against climate change, the Paris Climate Accords and its significance to the Blue Zone.
