On 10 June, the Perth USAsia Centre was pleased to host a roundtable discussion with  Ms Danielle Heinecke, Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia.

Australia and Malaysia’s relationship is one of enduring strength, supported by people-to-people links and deep historic ties.  Since 2021, Malaysia and Australia have been Comprehensive Strategic Partners, building on their longstanding cooperation across areas such as the Five Power Defence Arrangements. Malaysia is also Australia’s second-largest trading partner within ASEAN and its tenth-largest overall—an economic partnership that will only become more important as Malaysia sustains its robust growth.

Attendees heard from High Commissioner Heinecke on recent developments in the bilateral relationship, and discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas ranging from resources and the energy transition, to research and development, critical technology, services and investment.
