Why Vietnam matters
↗ Vietnam matters for the Indo-Pacific, and Australia. With more than 100 million people, its population is the third largest in Southeast Asia. The country is an emerging economic
powerhouse and strategically located close to key Asian markets and important trade routes. Finally, Vietnam is a claimant in the South China Sea territorial dispute, which has become a flash point of US-China competition.
