2025 Annual Report
2025 has underscored to us that uncertainty is the new normal. From the climate crisis, to hardening US-China competition, to evolving conflicts in the Middle East, Ukraine, Myanmar and Sudan, we are living in unstable times. Here in Western Australia, we continue to think deeply about the state’s pivotal role in meeting this moment, as a security partner for the Indo-Pacific region, and as an indispensable player in the global energy transition.
As the Perth USAsia Centre concludes its 12th year of operation, it’s clear that – despite the challenges we all face – there is cause for optimism. From a new security agreement with Indonesia, to a rare earths partnership with the US, and a deal with Japan to build the Royal Australian Navy’s future fleet of general-purpose frigates, Australia is working with its friends and neighbours to build the region we all hope for. And in fostering new networks, ideas and conversations, the Centre continues to play an important role in this regional endeavour.
