Is a Quad-plus the answer post COVID-19? Public webinar with Dr. Rajagopalan
On 29 April 2020, the Perth USAsia Centre was delighted to host Dr. Rajeswari Pillai Rajagopalan, Distinguished Fellow and Head of the Nuclear and Space Policy Initiative at Observer Research Foundation for our first virtual public webinar. Dr Rajagopalan is also one of the Centre’s inaugural Indo-Pacific Fellows for this year.

Moderated by our CEO Professor Gordon Flake, the event was attended by over 100 people hailing from 18 countries around the world.

Dr Rajagopalan explored the concept of a Quad, building on the existing Quad members of Australia, United States, Japan and India, to include like-minded countries such as New Zealand, South Korea and Vietnam, following the countries collaboration on how to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The lively conversation between Professor Flake and Dr Rajagopalan which included questions from attendees also explored the current relations between India and China, and the likelihood of repercussions for China post COVID-19.

Dr Rajagopalan also outlined how India has been successful in quickly responding to COVID-19, and the countries willingness to look outward moving forward.
