Japan’s Ambassador to Australia was hosted by the Perth USAsia Centre on 8 June 2017 for a private Ambassador’s Dialogue roundtable under Chatham House rules, which focused on Australia-Japan relations and Japan’s engagement in the Indo-Pacific region.
- The 21st century was predicted to mean the prosperity of Asia and surrounding regions. This has come into fruition however when examining the road to prosperity it is important to consider how we get there.
- The strategic thinking of Australia and Japan are aligned. Japan and Australia need each other now more than ever.
- Japan, the U.S., Australia and India all have interest in a peaceful region. There must be a combined effort among Indo-Pacific nations to ensure that this century passes with no upheaval.
- When considering economic plans, it is important to consider an economic plan that instils confidence in the region. We cannot rely on shared economic values alone.
