America’s Acting Ambassador to Australia, Chargé d'Affaires James Carouso, led a United States business and investment mission to Perth and was hosted by the Perth USAsia Centre for a private luncheon on 16 May 2017 under Chatham House rules.
Chargé d'Affaires Carouso has been the Acting United States Ambassador to Australia since the departure of Ambassador Berry in September 2016. Prior to assuming this role, Mr Carouso was Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Canberra.
Chargé d'Affaires Carouso Carouso was in Perth to promote U.S. business in the Western Australian market; particularly in the transport, infrastructure, information technology and defence sectors.
This event focused on the breadth and complexity of the two-way investment relationship between the Australia and the United States and the prospects for greater foreign direct investment from United States companies into the Western Australian economy.
The comprehensive economic relationship between the United States and Australia was recently highlighted by Perth USAsia Centre Senior Fellow Ian Satchwell's report, Trumping Trade: Understanding the Australia-United States Economic Relationship. The report is available for download here.
