Australia's Ambassador to Mexico Dr David Engel

Australia’s Ambassador to Mexico Dr David Engel was hosted by the Perth USAsia Centre on 15 May 2017 for a private Ambassador’s Dialogue roundtable under Chatham House rules, focusing on Australia’s strong bilateral relationship with Mexico and our shared membership and contribution to international institutions.
• Dr David Engel is currently serving as Australia’s Ambassador to Mexico and has non-resident accreditation to Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua.
• As well as the G20, APEC and the WTO, Australia and Mexico are member nations of MIKTA. MIKTA is a partnership between Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Turkey and Australia.
• Perth USAsia Centre CEO and Research Fellow Xu Wang recently reported on the capacity and intent of MIKTA and its member nations to influence global development, entitled "MIKTA: The Search for a Strategic Rationale" which can be downloaded here.
• The roundtable discussion touched on the predictions for Mexico as a G20 Country to ascend to the top 6 economies in the world by mid-century, as well as the growing opportunities for trade and investment between Mexico and Australia in the mining and energy sectors, education and professional services sectors and the tourism sector.
