I have just spent the past weekend at the Shangri-la Dialogue
, the region's pre-eminent conference on security and defence issues. With the US Pacific Command renaming itself
to the "US Indo-Pacific Command" and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's landmark keynote speech
at the Shangri-la Dialogue, this year's conference marked a coming of age for the "Indo-Pacific" concept. More on the Shangri-la Dialogue in my video below.
I am also proud to announce that we have just released tickets
for this year's In The Zone
conference. The Zone Above: The Indo-Pacific Era in Space
will be held on 8 October 2018 at Optus Stadium. We have so far confirmed regional experts from Australia, the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, India and Japan to explore our shared opportunities, challenges and risks around the 'Zone Above'.
Finally, I would like to extend my congratulations to the UWA Public Policy Institute (UWA PPI). Established last month
by The University of Western Australia to maximise the University's contribution to policy, I look forward to collaborating and working together to provide thought leadership in the Indo-Pacific while raising the profile of Western Australia in the policy sector.
