This panel address by Australian Ambassador for the Environment Mr Patrick Suckling on 26 July 2017, co-hosted by the Perth USAsia Centre and the UWA Oceans Institute, focused on Australia's obligations under the Paris Climate Accord.
Ambassador Patrick Suckling is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). He is responsible for promoting and protecting Australia’s national interests on global environmental issues, including through leading Australia’s negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
An effective international response to climate change supports Australia’s long-term economic, environmental and security interests. Ambassador Suckling discussed what Australians and Australian policymakers are doing to implement the Paris Agreement, and to promote sustainable development with positive environmental outcomes.
This public address is a lead-up event to the In The Zone 2017 conference "The Blue Zone". In the Zone will explore the sustainability of the Indian and Pacific Oceans with respect to environment, resources and security issues.
