About the Perth USAsia Centre
The Perth USAsia Centre is a non-partisan, not-for-profit institution that promotes stronger relationships between Australia, the Indo-Pacific and the USA by contributing to strategic thinking, policy development and enhanced networks between government, the private sector and academia.
Based at The University of Western Australia, the Centre works in close partnership with the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, and draw on the distinctive attributes of Western Australia and its existing relationship to Asia.
The Perth USAsia Centre will initially specialise in three policy areas:
- Indo-Pacific Strategy
- The Australia-Asia-US Strategic Triangle
- Education and Public Outreach
WA’s geographic position at the centre of evolving international relations in the Indo-Pacific places Perth in an interesting and strategic position. Arguably no other part of Australia has such deep and meaningful connections with Indonesia, China and India – the leading nations of emerging Asia.
Today, the influence of these countries is measured by their respective populations and GDP potential, and recognised through membership of the increasingly influential Group of 20 - the G20. Together they make up 40% of the world’s population.
It is the evolving strategic and economic relationship between the dynamic Asian nations; Australia and the United States that the Perth USAsia Centre will seek to better understand for the benefit of all.
